Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Essential Job Functions: Under the general direction of the Dean of the University Library, the incumbent will be responsible for researching, designing, implementing and assessing effective communication and marketing strategies to enhance the visibility of library collections, services, events, programs and exhibits while increasing awareness of the vital contributions the University Library makes to teaching, learning and research at Cal State LA. The incumbent will collaborate, manage and/or assist in the scheduling and planning of library sponsored or hosted events, receptions, programs meeting and exhibits. The incumbent oversees the design of all University Library marketing and outreach materials; develop and implement the University Library s marketing and social media strategy; produce written and graphic/visual content to help promote and share the University Library s activities through interaction with students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors; and work in collaboration with campus partners, colleges, program centers, University Advancement, Alumni Association, student organizations, and the Office of Communications and Public Affairs to ensure that the University Library s communications content is consistent with the mission and strategic initiatives of the University Library, Cal State LA and the policies that govern the University. Required Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism. Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field and three years of experience in the communications, public relations, or marketing fields. Incumbent must be have familiarity and engagement with social media platforms such as Constant Contact, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube; excellent written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling and the composition of various communication vehicles; detail oriented; exceptional interpersonal and networking skills, including strong consultative and collaborative skills with internal and external constituents; and strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills. Incumbent must have the ability to plan, organize and execute events and to coordinate resources; mange changing priorities, critical deadlines, and maintain a sense of urgency, initiative and follow-through; establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, groups, work effectively as a member of a team; and must demonstrate an interest or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position. Special Desired Qualifications Masters degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations; Marketing, or a related field. Experience with graphic design, desktop publishing and/or presentation software; experience working in higher education environment ; and proficient in use of interactive marketing techniques such as video sharing, social networks, email marketing, and blogs.
