Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Under general supervision, identify, report, and recommend a wide variety of workplace safety, environmental and construction design factors to prevent or correct design/build conditions that may adversely impact employee safety, health, comfort and productivity. Perform safety oversight of engineering construction activities by identifying appropriate field construction safety professionals for sites and overseeing their work. Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering project. Oversee and evaluate new and existing construction projects or safety risks and hazards Company-wide Identify safety professionals for safety projects and provide support and oversight of the field project safety function Conduct risk management review of processes and projects in accordance with Process Safety Management/Risk Management Plan Develop and provide safety perspective for design and processes, make recommendations for new construction projects, operational improvements and renovations by recommending engineering solutions or elimination of hazards Provide onsite evaluation of existing process and equipment Review design plans and specifications, and prepare appropriate reports and presentations for management Conduct assessments on detailed exposure, facility design, and equipment and materials design Collaborate with site management and provide technical support on health and safety preventative measures in complying with Freeport-McMoRan, OSHA, MSHA, and other regulations and standards Proactively address health and safety issues and the risk associated with the design, construction, and modification of operating procedures Perform other duties as required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering, OR Master's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and two (2) years of related experience in Engineering Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Preferred Field Engineering experience. Project Management experience. Construction Management experience. Experience working at a mine site. Experience with material handling design (conveyors/chutes) and hydraulic design (pumping/piping). Criteria/Conditions Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment Work in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
