The role holder must have a demonstrable interest and capability in computer sciences and new technology. combine specific financial crime subject matter expertise, particularly related to money laundering, corruption, and/or fraud, with designing data driven analytical approaches to build and profile networks; drive the teams proactive horizon scanning and identification of key emerging financial crime threats across money laundering and anti-bribery/corruption, and interface with other regional teams to identify and deliver coherent narratives on financial crime themes. Impact on the Business Key technical resource in the evolution of the Group s financial crime intelligence capability and the management of financial crime risk Pro-active, timely development of intelligence and analysis related to to identify, understand and enable the remediation of financial crime threats to the bank, particularly related to money laundering, corruption, and/or fraud concerns; support most immediately FCTM Investigations, but also the 1st and/or 2nd lines of defense more broadly. The ability to communicate often complex analytical solutions to the wider department, ensuring a strong transfer of key findings & intelligence. Prioritize the development of typology-driven data analytic models and other techniques to deliver maximum business impact from our analytical findings. Produce well-drafted and effectively peer reviewed intelligence products that are timely, tailored to individual customer needs. Development and application of financial crime subject matter expertise on money laundering, corruption and/or fraud, to enhance our understanding of threats to the Bank, and to improve our business impact. Customers / Stakeholders Develop/participate in collaborative, multi-disciplinary project teams, notably with Investigations, to bring appropriate Intelligence support to FCTM casework and the lines-of-business (LOB). Collaborate within Subject Matter Communities and other fora in the Bank to share knowledge, and develop analytical best practice and consistent analytical narratives. Objective is improved interaction with and impact of our analysis with the LOBs. Identify intelligence gaps and agree with stakeholders plans to address them, and priorities. Work with IASD colleagues in FCTM to provide feedback on proprietary tools, and/or identify gaps in data. Leadership & Teamwork Help execute IASD s Intelligence strategy by: Work actively as part of a dynamic team - often located in different countries and time zones - including taking on unfamiliar/difficult tasks when necessary. Recognize the regional and global impacts of financial crime, requiring our analysis to be joined up and global in perspective. Flexibility and adaptability are key. Develop and support analytical models & programs within the Financial Crime Risk (FCR) team and with Global Security and Fraud Risk management and teams. The position holder may also be involved in joint projects with Financial Crime Compliance and with other Group Risk teams. Once established in role, act as a buddy or mentor to new Intelligence Managers. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Operational Effectiveness & Control Contribution of project findings to support the development of typology-driven data analytic tools. Adherence to operational controls, as outlined in procedures and policies to ensure risks are identified and managed Contribution to processes for building management information (MI) Create and deliver analytical solutions that are fully documented and explained that meet the business aims/requirements. Exercises responsibility for updates to existing models through regular monitoring and validation of results. Major Challenges Delivery of analysis to a tempo consistent with real-time developments in the world of financial crime specifically related to money laundering, corruption, and/or fraud. Understanding the needs and writing accordingly to senior audiences, such as Financial Crime Risk (FCR) Management Committees. Understanding the highly complex and constantly changing landscape of analytic technology and data to minimize duplication and maximize benefit. The role holder will be expected to be at the leading edge of this new technical skill set. The role is part of a small, but growing, team and will be expected to play a major part in defining and delivering the continued evolution of this capability within the wider context of FCTM and FCR. Engaging effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders from senior managers to Relationship Managers to developers Developing expert knowledge of financial crime themes, specifically money laundering, corruption, and/or fraud, and applying the knowledge to support the build of new typology-driven data analytics, FCTM investigations, and to suggest and test innovative ways to improve FCTM capability. Role Context The role holder will be expected to demonstrate considerable curiosity, autonomy and entrepreneurial spirit to deliver our pro-active, business-focused analytical model. The post holder should be comfortable working in an environment where the demands of the role are often ambiguous and evolving. He/she should be creative in crafting bespoke, clear and effective responses to a wide range of stakeholders, including senior executives in the Bank. The role holder will have access to highly-sensitive information and must exercise sound judgment in protecting it whilst adhering to all relevant rules and regulations. Senior decision makers will base important business decisions on the research product; hence the need for subject matter expertise, delivered authoritatively both orally and in writing. The role holder must be equipped to work in a high pressure environment, often with short deadlines. Management of Risk The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing financial crimes threats, geopolitical, economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology. The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organization. Observation of Internal Controls Maintains internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. The jobholder must adhere to all relevant internal controls and should be able to demonstrate a flawless track record in this area. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators. A combination of applied mathematics, statistics, advanced computing (machine learning, artificial intelligence), visualization, data engineering. Specific domain expertise in the area of combatting financial crime and/or a strong R&D background an advantage. Experience working within the Hadoop ecosystem in addition to strong technical skills in analytical languages such as Python, R, SQL, SAS. Specific knowledge of Spark and/or graph theory an advantage. Strong communication and influencing skills. Ability to produce high quality, high impact written products and verbal briefings. Experience briefing analytic findings to senior executives and/or policymakers Knowledge and/or background in financial crime themes, such as sanctions evasion, money laundering, terrorism financing, fraud, bribery and corruption or financial intelligence would be an asset Experience with data analysis: interpretation and transformation of data sets, delivering intelligence insights from raw data and producing effective and innovative data visualizations. Competent Excel user with experience in basic coding an advantage Strong team player with a proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently A keen interest in business, banking and current affairs is desirable. Professional-level English is required. Proficiency in additional languages is desirable.
