Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The successful candidate will lead a global team of 9 attorneys and other IP professionals responsible for company-wide development and protection of broad intellectual property portfolio consisting of life science, diagnostic and analytical instrumentation products, software, and solutions. The successful candidate will lead and develop the IP team in a manner consistent with Agilent s values and leadership expectations which include collaboration, innovation, self-awareness, open communication, respect, and team development. This person will lead global IP strategy including both defensive practices and proactive efforts to utilize IP for the purpose of driving new business initiatives that will contribute to growth. She/he will work closely with internal legal & business partners and external counsel to anticipate and resolve IP litigation, threats, infringements and other IP ownership challenges. She/he will be an experienced leader who can operate at an executive level to influence forward-looking IP direction while making hands-on, business-focused contributions. This person will be a member of the General Counsel s senior leadership team and will reflect Agilent s commitment to collaboration and engagement. Travel expectations of between 10-20%. Qualifications: Qualifications & Skills J.D. with license to practice and Bachelors degree (minimum) in a relevant life science field. Masters Degree and/or PhD are preferred. Minimum of 15 years of combined law firm and in-house corporate experience in the medical device, life sciences, and/or in vitro diagnostics sectors. Broad experience with portfolio management, IP litigation and transactions, and strategic global IP planning. At least 5 years in progressively increasing IP leadership roles and proven track record of leading IP teams. Experience in IP litigation. Proven ability to set and implement IP strategy for emerging life sciences technologies using current and evolving IP legal practices. Excellent business acumen and judgement, plus a knowledge of in vitro diagnostics and medical device IP practices. Successful record of working in a global and multi-cultural environment. A significant understanding of the commercial and legal environments affecting IP in foreign markets. Excellent leadership as well as verbal and written communication skills. High EQ, high degree of self-awareness, confident, relationship-builder and values-driven. Driven to inspire, mentor and develop members of the Legal team. Independent, pro-active, hands-on and collaborative. Strategic and results-oriented mindset and orientation. Impeccable integrity and a good sense of humor.
