Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Essential Functions: Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Advisor provides counseling and advisement to students regarding all aspects of student financial aid programs and processes. Counseling takes place at both on and off-campus locations, during the normal weekdays, evenings, and weekends. The incumbent manages an applicant caseload, applies federal, state, CSU Chancellor s Office Executive Orders, institutional policies and regulations to ensure compliance in all functions of the awarding financial aid; processes files and reports within the caseload; is responsible for the administration of designated Financial Aid related programs: TEACH Grant; Athletics; Cal Grant; Educational Opportunity Program (EOP); Student Loans; Study Abroad, etc.; acts as a liaison with on and off-campus departments and/or agencies; maintains updated knowledge of responsible programs and in turn, updates office staff and provides information to be used in making appropriate recommendations for implementation and compliance; and will participate in professional development activities, attend meetings, university activities and training. Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or job-related field. Two years of full-time professional experience in Financial Aid, one of the student services program areas, or in a related field. A Master s degree in a job-related field may substitute for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities required, may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must possess: literacy in using personal computers and various supporting software programs; strong counseling skills; current knowledge of federal and state Financial Aid policies and regulations; and sensitivity to students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to: read, interpret, and apply complex rules and regulations correctly and accurately; recognize, analyze and resolve complex eligibility cases; think independently; make professional judgments; use current University Los Angeles integrated computer system; multi-task effectively in a high paced environment on a daily basis; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
