Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Patent Legal Secretary will provide secretarial support to attorneys and technical specialists related to the patent prosecution process including: assisting with preparing applications, responses and other patent prosecution documents for filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and reporting filings to clients; monitoring, processing, and assisting with completing attorney s dockets; preparing routine correspondence, reading and routing mail, maintaining patent files, and screening attorney s incoming telephone calls; performing research and compiling data as requested by attorneys; and other duties as assigned. Successful candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of patent prosecution secretarial experience with domestic patent prosecution in a law firm environment. Foreign patent prosecution experience including preparing and filing PCT applications is a strong plus. Thorough knowledge of USPTO rules and practices, including docketing, public/private PAIR, national stage prosecution and formality requirements. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent proofreading skills. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects. Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and be a strong team player.
