Manager - Accounting and Financial Reporting Lead

Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Essential Functions Develop and maintain financial and accounting policies and plans, maintain financial and accounting systems, and provide overall management for day to day transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, grants/contract management (in partnership with post-award reporting) and audit reporting. Oversee preparation of a comprehensive financial reporting package that presents a coherent view of the Medical School's financial activities and provides a common understanding of operational and financial opportunities and challenges for all major operating divisions. This includes (but is not limited to) monthly P and L reports, variance reporting and cash flow reporting for each department at the School. Review and serve as main approver for all journal entries and transactions and review project and account reconciliations prepared by others. Financial transactions include but are not limited to processing of purchase orders, pro-card vouchers, cash/check deposits, travel authorizations, travel reimbursements, budget transfers, vendor setups, and authorizations for individual services. Ensure proper interpretation and application of fiscal policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, UT System and university regulations and policy. Identify opportunities to strengthen internal accounting controls and recommend/implement improvements. Provide analytic capacity in support of the initiative review process, capital investments, and business and academic program opportunities, in collaboration with senior leadership. Coordinate financial activities between the Medical School and partners to ensure alignment. Investigate enhanced reporting tools either by leveraging current systems or exploring external systems. Carry out ad hoc reporting and analysis in support of Medical School initiatives. Prepare or review responses to financial surveys as required. Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. Required qualifications Bachelor's degree. At least ten years related work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility. Extensive knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles and general ledger systems and procedures. Broad knowledge of accounting and financial reporting principles, superb analytic, project management, and presentation skills. Strong organizational skills, a flexible work style and be able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.
