Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Key Responsibilities Include: Advancing the legislative agenda of ABA by developing working relationships with assigned congressional offices, particularly Democratic members of the U.S. Senate, the Senate Banking Committee and Senate Leadership. Establishing fundraising budgets for assigned Senators and coordinating with ABA state associations on the approval and distribution of PAC funds. Hosting and attending congressional fundraising functions on behalf of BankPAC. Developing relationships with bankers and state association executives to coordinate ABA s federal legislative agenda. Drafting legislative memos and assisting in preparing witnesses for testimony in the U.S. Senate. Requirements A 4 year degree is required for this position. A minimum of seven (7) years' Congressional experience with a focus on the banking industry is required. Candidates must have experience in the financial services industry. Experience in a Capitol Hill congressional relations area and a trade association is considered a plus. Candidates should possess: Thorough understanding of Senate and Congressional legislative processes and procedures. Strong knowledge of banking legislative issues and the financial services industry. Knowledge of fundraising rules and practices. Demonstrated ability to convey complex banking concepts in brief, pointed conversations with Members and staff. Strong decision making skills with a solid foundation of analytical and strategic thinking. Excellent verbal communications skills in presenting and influencing others and in listening to others. Excellent written communication skills. Ability to effectively lobby for ABA advocacy efforts. Ability to handle negative reactions to ABA positions, making them positive.
