Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The CCO oversees the organization s development and maintenance of an effective Compliance Program that meets Federal, state and local regulatory standards and guidance and functions as an independent and objective body empowered to review and evaluate compliance issues and concerns within the organization. Required Skills Develops and oversees implementation and management of Children's Compliance Program infrastructure development, maintenance, and enhancement, striving for best practice program activities. Oversee Compliance Department planning and staff activities. Oversees development and adoption of the Lurie Children's Code of Conduct and compliance-related policies and procedures and verifies whether they are being followed. Lead Department use of assessment and communication tools to identify and investigate potential or actual compliance issues and act promptly to prevent, correct and mitigate those issues. Collaborates and assists, where possible, Lurie Children s Internal Audit, Information Security, and Privacy functions by providing objective analyses, recommendations, and other support. Oversee implementation of Lurie Children s compliance work plan, including planned, scheduled, as well as unexpected and for cause periodic audits and assessments. Develop, implement, manage and distribute policies, procedures and practices designed to ensure compliance with the requirements set forth in federal and state health care and other government guidance. Monitor the day-to-day Compliance activities and reporting obligations engaged in by the organization. Meet regularly with the CEO to keep them informed of compliance-related matters; report Compliance Program metrics at routine intervals and more often, when necessary, on such issues as compliance reviews, reported violations, average days to resolve violations, monitoring and auditing results, and other matters as they are identified. Respond to alleged violations of laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and the Code of Conduct by evaluating or recommending investigative procedures. Ensure that reported concerns are appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved. Report alleged violations to various enforcement agencies, as required. Use objective metrics to routinely report Compliance Program activity to the CEO, Executive Compliance Committee, and the Board Compliance Committee on at least a quarterly basis, and more frequently as needed. Act as staff to CEO chair of the organization s Executive Compliance Committee, providing the Committee with education and reports of the organization s compliance-related activities and responding to questions about the Compliance Program. Develop a risk assessment process and work with management to identify potential areas of compliance risks and vulnerabilities. Develop and implement corrective action plans for the resolution of identified issues. Monitor the design, development, and operation of the Compliance Program and related activities on a continuing basis and take appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness. Update senior management, department Directors, and the Board of Trustees on changes in compliance requirements, expectations, and regulatory requirement. Collaborate with Research Program leadership to lend support and expertise to Research compliance efforts. The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations. Other job functions as assigned. Required Experience Seven plus years applicable compliance experience with progressive management and leadership roles; privacy experience preferred. Ability to collaborate and develop and maintain executive level relationships and confidently, independently interface with senior executives. Ability to manage multiple priorities and concurrent projects and meet reasonable deadlines. Demonstrated leadership ability with emphasis on confronting issues and preventing and addressing compliance and privacy concerns through education, collaborative corrective action, and shared goals. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes, policies, and programs surrounding applicable laws and regulations while supporting clinical excellence. Track record of creating and implementing successful education and training programs. Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression. Confident decision making, ease at working in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Experience with compliance-related software preferred. Certification in healthcare compliance, research compliance, and/or privacy preferred. Bachelors Degree required, Masters or Juris Doctor preferred.
