Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Currently has an opening for a Senior System Engineer to support our Department of State, Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM), Vanguard 2.2.1 Program. The IRM bureau provides enterprise architecture design, engineering, information assurance, operations and maintenance support services for desktops, servers, networks, firewalls, and enterprise applications across the Department. Vanguard 2.2.1 is an IT program supporting the State Department's servers, network devices, perimeter security, anti-virus engineering, public key infrastructure (PKI)/biometrics/ encryption, monitoring tools, telephony, mobile computing platform, virtual environment, and enclave design/security engineering. This is a senior-level system engineer/administrator position within the Vanguard program's Enterprise Engineering Office (EEO). The incumbent is a member of the project team responsible for providing system integration support for an endpoint security application and database, and for administering, maintaining, and deploying various solutions in the area of endpoint security. The incumbent has two primary responsibilities: - (1) installing, configuring and maintaining Microsoft Server 2012 R2 VM server infrastructure, and (2) installing, configuring and maintaining SQL Server 2012 VM server infrastructure. - The incumbent will also advise on system engineering and administration best practices as they relate to the implementation and support of endpoint security technologies. Job Description: The Sr. System Engineer/Administrator is responsible for: - Supporting the full system development life cycle for the implementation of a new enterprise-wide security solution. - Installing, configuring and maintaining multiple Microsoft Server 2012 R2, in a Vblock environment that includes clustering and high availability, monitoring server performance and performing tuning functions to achieve optimal system efficiency. - Installing, configuring and maintaining SQL Server 2012 in a VBlock environment that includes backup/recovery procedures, and ensuring all connections for SQL reporting are functioning properly and mapping correctly. - Installing, configuring, and maintaining infrastructure tools necessary to support the endpoint security applications, databases and logs. - Providing for system continuity by developing backup and recovery processes and procedures to support recovery from system or application failures. - Ensuring supported systems maintain compliance with DoS policies for governance, cybersecurity and information assurance, and operations and maintenance, including patch management. - Supporting development of project reports, technical documentation and project artifacts. QUALIFICATIONS: TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience. Additional experience in lieu of degree will be considered. Required Education and Experience: - 5+ of hands on experience in system/network engineering or administration. Required Skills/Experience: - Installing and maintaining VM servers, clusters, and system/admin/user accounts. - Installing and maintaining SQL Servers. - Implementing server patch management, including manual and automated methods. - Performing backup and recovery procedures. - Installing and maintaining related system and tools software, including monitoring vendors' support facilities for software updates and implementing maintenance to keep systems current and within vendor's required specifications. - Application of security policies and procedures to the supported infrastructure platforms. - Additional MS SQL database knowledge of: General understanding of maintenance plans and maintenance routines. General understanding of the database to include data file vs. transaction log . Creating and permitting user accounts. Ability to troubleshoot databases and configurations. - Excellent communication skills and proficiency in speaking/reading/writing English. Desired Experience/Skills/Attributes: MCSA/MCSE certifications - Knowledge and expertise in endpoint security technologies, to include isolation-based endpoint security systems, host-based intrusion protection systems (HIPS), antivirus applications, host-based firewalls, and virtualization technologies. - Knowledge of System Center Configuration Manager. - CISSP, network or firewall certifications, storage certifications, virtualization credentials such as VCP. - Familiarity with DoS environment (data and voice networks, IT security systems, policies and procedures). Must have an active Top Secret clearance to be considered.
