Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Essential Job Functions: Under the general direction of IT Infrastructure Services and direct supervision of the manager, Network/PBX Operations, the incumbent provides the primary support for user connectivity issues related to wired and wireless networks and resources. The incumbent also provides support for network issues related to switches, routers, wireless network components, including set up and configuration of hardware and software, disaster recovery preparation and network security. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity and reliability of assigned network components, and monitoring tools. Required Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor s degree from an accredited four year college or university in computer science, engineering, industrial technology, telecommunication or a related field. Or equivalent training and experience. Technical knowledge and experience with: TCP/IP networking protocols and troubleshooting techniques for wired and wireless connectivity; network configurations of switches and routers; and protocols enabling user connectivity for wired and wireless resources. Knowledge of: SNMP network monitoring devices; logging and data collection; network security principles and implementation methods. The incumbent must possess: good analytical skills, including the ability to respond to problems, prioritize actions, and quickly initiate corrective action; good verbal, written and listening communication skills; and good organizational skills. Proven ability to monitor many service aspects simultaneously without loss of data integrity or security and ability to: take initiative and be self-directed; and learn new concepts quickly. Demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position. Special Desired Qualifications: Experience with: configuring various Cisco or Alcatel Lucent networking devices; designing and implementing networks with switches, routers and firewalls; configuring wireless access points or controllers; firewalls and VPN devices; and providing technical support for a variety of information technology needs. Good project planning skills and ability to interpret trends and forecast network situations from system data.
