Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The MDD is responsible for developing a diverse and sustainable individual, corporate, and foundation investor base throughout San Diego County, and will manage at least one other development team member toward ambitious quarterly and annual goals. Along with the Executive Director, the MDD leads stewardship of key stakeholders to ensure that all donors have an opportunity to directly experience the way our teacher leaders and alumni are innovating education and transforming student lives. Qualifications: Primary Responsibilities 15% - Regional Fundraising Strategy Create the short and long- term regional development strategic and operating plans for all development streams in line with the San Diego Regional Vision and Priorities Analyze past regional performance, current and future regional funding needs, and regional landscape to set ambitious, yet feasible, donation and donor retention goals Collaborate with the Communications Director (internal, part-time consultant) to devise, implement, and fine tune development communications and event planning, marketing, and media strategies Analyze the interests of donors and prospects to develop compelling fundraising campaigns, pitches, engagement strategies, and stewardship activities Conduct research and analysis on the local landscape to inform vision, goals and strategies for all aspects of external affairs work 50% - Regional Stewardship of Donor Relations Source, cultivate, solicit, and steward a high impact portfolio of current and prospective funders including individual givers, corporate giving sources, and foundations Manage multi-stream portfolio to increase donor renewal and upgrade rates by assessing motivations and barriers and leveraging key influencers to build a strong relationship between the donor and Teach For America - San Diego Oversee and execute multiple development related events of various scales, from intimate 10 attendee friendraisers to 200 RSVP annual education awards event Manage the development of meeting prep and tactical plans to successfully engage donor and donor prospects Facilitate Executive Director s strategic involvement in regional fundraising efforts that best leverages their time and talent Support Regional Advisory Board of Directors involvement in development initiatives including partnering with the ED to manage and maximize regional advisory board engagement Partner with Executive Director and Chief of Staff to prepare for and participate in board meetings, partner with board members on development-specific projects or activities, and communicate with board members as needed Manage the creation of development tools, i.e. pitch decks, materials, etc. for Development team to use in regular meetings and larger scale events 15% - Team and Regional Leadership Manage members of the Development Team and coach and develop them as leaders in their roles and the organization, ensuring achievement of regional goals Regularly assess and report on team wide progress to goals, identify what is driving and impeding progress, and developing solutions to address gaps and adjust course as necessary As a member of the region s group of senior leaders, help to set the direction and tone of our team towards a culture of trust, collaboration, inclusiveness, and innovation in service of our core values and our regional vision and goals Operates as a culture leader for the entire team, embodying our core values, collaborating across teams, and mentoring staff members Participates in annual planning, and long-term regional strategic planning Informs key regional decisions and advises Executive Director Represents our work externally as a leader of Teach For America - San Diego 20% - Collective Responsibility and Professional Development Participate in phone selection and/or in-person selection for up to three days each selection window (about 6-10 days total throughout the year depending on your role) Matriculate new corps members during 4-5 confirmation windows throughout the year Staff large-scale regional events (such as All-Corps, CM Orientation and Summer Training) often times for a whole day or multiple days at a time. Attend all-staff meetings, retreats, and step backs throughout the year Drive own professional development with support from manager and others Engage in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection Requirements Prior Experience At least 7-10 years of professional experience Demonstrated results in meeting ambitious fundraising goals and/or external relationships in past roles Work Demands Some weekend and evening work required Skills Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills, specifically ability to think big, generate ideas and implement solutions to complex problems Demonstrated ability to both motivate and manage team and others to achieve ambitious, measurable results Keen understanding of the beliefs, contexts and motivations of others Knack for influencing others toward outcomes through sophisticated relationship management Strong verbal and written communicator who is able to tailor message and approach; can speak compellingly about our organization, mission, and goals and has a mature presence Knowledge of Salesforce (preferred), Excel, and PowerPoint required Education Bachelors Degree preferred.
