Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Applicant is responsible for managing the Company s patent application portfolio through all stages of the patenting process, as well as technical guidance during the engineering, design, and testing of initial concepts for new pipeline welding equipment and processes MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Work with internal and external attorneys to write and file patent applications Track the status of multiple applications through the patenting process Coordinate with internal resources to expedite patent filings and meet strict deadlines Prioritize resources across multiple projects Design conceptual models for new product ideas Write requirements and specifications for proof of concept and prototype designs Participate in design reviews with manufacturing, sales, and field technicians Assist with the manufacturing, assembly, and testing of prototype equipment Manage outside contractors in the design of proof of concept and prototype equipment Work with commercial manager to build business cases for new products REQUIREMENTS Education Required Bachelors Degree in Engineering Work Experience Required 4 years experience in machine, heavy equipment, or industrial automation design Skills & Knowledge Required: Experience writing and filing patents in the US PCT and foreign patent filing experience is a plus Intermediate to advanced computer skills with proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Basic understanding of Electrical and Electronics Engineering concepts and terminology Understanding of current machining technology and the limitations of different processes Solid Modeling (Autodesk Inventor preferred) Practical experience in as many of following areas as possible: hydraulics, pneumatics, electromechanical systems, welding, machining, controls, engineering materials, industrial automation, modeling and simulations, embedded systems Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong reasoning and analytical skills Good organizational and interpersonal skills Project management experience is a plus.
