Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The role requires performance of core patent activities in the field of chemistry and to interact, advise, and strategically partner with the business with respect to patent and exclusivity activities. Candidates should be able to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The role requires the application of expertise in US patent law and practice, at least working knowledge of foreign patent law and practice, and awareness of other forms of product exclusivity protection. The position is required to build relationships and counsel Associates and key business partners on complex and high value/impact IP-related matters and provide patent expertise in meetings. The role also requires the ability to evaluate, prioritize, and execute in a fast paced, demanding, and rapidly changing workplace. It is necessary to collegially and collaboratively provide timely advice on general business and technology issues taking into account business goals and IP protection concerns. Accordingly, the role requires excellence in (a) written communications, including attention to detail, (b) oral communications, both in-person and remote (phone/video conference), and (c) interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster trust and respect and to create friendly and collaborative working relationships with Associates. Patent activities for the role include, but are not limited to, patent drafting and prosecution, patentability and freedom to operate analysis, IP due diligences in connection with licensing and other transactions, support of adversarial proceedings, and providing contract IP terms. The role involves management of a patent portfolio relating to multiple products and other strategic assets. In addition, the role requires contributions to the development of operational and strategic objectives within the IP group and the business according to the level of experience.
