Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Role Summary The e-commerce department of is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to take help build the next generation of our digital experience. Our agile development teams develop and support our products top-to-bottom and ship software on a regular basis (anywhere from daily to every two weeks). A successful candidate will thrive in a fast paced, autonomous team environment and is passionate about building software the 'right' way and teaching that software craftsmanship mentality to others. Finally, they will enjoy the reward of delivering business value quickly, while working with product owners to help craft their roadmaps in pieces that can be delivered in an incremental nature. Scope & Complexity This position supports complex software development activities for Alaska Air Group (AAG) and its subsidiaries. Key Duties Contributes as a lead developer on an agile delivery team, collaborating with product owners, designers, and other developers to deliver business value on an iterative basis. Architects, designs, and develops complex, end-to-end custom, software applications. Ensures delivery of high-quality software by writing clean code and utilizing pair programming, test-driven development (TDD), continuous integration, and code reviews. Is accountable for establishing a technology roadmap and guiding the team to make progress against it each sprint. Influences department-wide technology strategy and works across teams to evangelize the improvement of our technology. Remains actively engaged in the technology industry and understands how the evolving technologies can benefit AAG and its customers. Participates in on-call support rotation. Performs other responsibilities as assigned. Job-Specific Skills Required A minimum of 7 years of software development experience building custom, high scale, n-tier applications using modern object-orientated languages such as C# or Java A minimum of 7 years of experience developing web applications using modern web technologies (Angular, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS) and design patterns (MVC/MVP). A minimum of 5 years of experience creating and supporting high-scale micro-services. Expertise with TDD, unit testing, pair programming, and other Extreme Programming (XP) techniques. Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to socialize and introduce new ideas and technologies to communities of developers. High degree of professionalism, customer service orientation, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task. Expertise coaching and mentoring developers. Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with a variety of team members. High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum age of 18. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in computer science, is strongly preferred. Experience building high-scaled distributed systems using Azure or AWS. Expertise with modern design principles (e.g., SOA, SOLID, etc.). Experience with DevOps practices and supporting tools. Experience in Agile/Lean development methodologies. Experience negotiating requirements with stakeholders directly.
