Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Construction Inspector I will perform on-site inspection services in support of NCDOT s various construction projects performing intermediate-level engineering technician inspection duties. The Construction Inspector I duties include on site materials testing and assisting NCDOT to monitor the work of contractors for compliance with quality requirements for roadway, structure and bridge work. The Construction Inspector I: Inspects and monitors assigned field work activities on construction projects for conformance with plans, specifications, and other contract documents Verifies that highways work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements Prepares and reviews daily inspector reports for preparation of entries into project diaries and is able to properly document materials in the Materials Notebook as well as other test reports for materials Reads and interprets drawings and specifications Observes general job construction and safety practices Follows applicable quality control procedures for concrete, steel, or soil testing Assists in contractor s monthly evaluations. Performs other duties as assigned Talent is the essence of meeting our client s objectives, goals and challenges. Job Requirements Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent NCDOT Concrete Certification 3 or more years of experience with construction inspection, preferably including inspection of roadway and bridge projects. Working knowledge of the State of NC and Federal environmental, safety, and Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines and regulations Working knowledge of/proficiency with mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to read and interpret roadway, structure and bridge plans and specifications; apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor adjustments to construction plans; maintain detailed records; perform required materials testing and communicate effectively with the agency and contractor personnel and the general public. A working knowledge of NCDOT standards, specifications and manuals and be proficient in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment preferred. NICET II certification preferred.
