Job Responsibilities and Requirements: As a Patent Agent, you will: Working with research personnel and product development personnel in the planning, preparation and management of invention disclosures. Working with patent attorneys and research personnel in planning and preparing patent applications. Perform prior art searches to assess patentability and clearance issues, internal and competitive patent landscapes Provide reports regarding patent and portfolio status, claims, and family trees. Work directly with research and product development personnel and patent attorneys to obtain information and materials pertaining to assigned projects and responsibilities. Assist in the evaluation of concepts from external sources. Provide research and support to patent attorneys on patent prosecution matters, licensing and acquisition matters. Assist in identifying opportunities for IP protection to R & D team. Assist in identifying, developing and performing training for company as it relates to IP. Be an active member of the Joint Reconstruction Patent Review Board. Plan, organize, and run brainstorming sessions. Assist R & D with the preparation of invention disclosures. Provide intellectual property updates to R & D Groups. Maintain technical and patent marking database, as well as databases of inventions related to specific research and development projects. Identify active patents assigned/licensed to DePuy that are no longer important to the business and make recommendations concerning possible licensing, divesture or abandonment. Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times. Diligently participate in our compliance program-related activities as denoted by your supervisor or our Chief Compliance Officer. Participate in the JNJ Patent Liaisons Subcommittee; leverage best practices A minimum of a Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Physics is required; an advance degree is preferred. A registered US Patent Agent is preferred A minimum of 6 years of R&D and/or patent experience is required. Orthopedic industry experience is preferred. Experience searching patent databases is preferred. Knowledge of US patent laws is required; experience with US Patents is preferred. Knowledge of European patents laws and experience with European patents is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required. Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to delivering work product to satisfying tight deadlines is required. Strong communication skills are required. Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time to domestic destinations.
