The individual will provide counsel and services to ensure that the organization is protecting its innovations and mitigating risk as to third party Intellectual Property. Day-to-day duties for this position include: Advising, counseling, and actively participating in the development of a strategic, global, Intellectual Property portfolio (including patents, copyrights, and trade secrets) for Beckman Coulter s Hematology business, with particular emphasis on procuring protection of hardware and software relating to Beckman s hematology analyzers. Preparation and prosecution of patents. Drive invention disclosure processes with R&D and participate in IP review meetings. Monitoring third party Intellectual Property so as to provide competitive intelligence reports and possible technology opportunities to the business as well as to ensure freedom to operate. Collaborate with Beckman Coulter s global intellectual property team on the above. Bachelor s degree or higher from an accredited university in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science. J.D. Member of local law association 0-5 years of legal experience in Intellectual Property, with experience in both procurement and analysis of patents. Registered to Practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to relate at all levels of the organization including R&D, product line leaders and senior management. Team player; Positive attitude with collegial work style. Results-oriented, responsive client-service. Superior work ethic and personal accountability, as well as organizational accountability. Uncompromising integrity and drive to do the right thing. Beckman Coulter develops, manufactures and markets products that simplify, automate and innovate complex biomedical testing. Our diagnostic systems, found in hospitals and other critical care settings around the world, produce information used by physicians to diagnose disease, make treatment decisions and monitor patients. Scientists use our life science research instruments to study complex biological problems including causes of disease and potential new therapies or drugs.
