Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Instrument Man Level I provides effective and accurate layout by using various survey equipment available. Performs layout activities as directed by the Party Chief, Superintendent and/or Foremen for the installation of layout on a small to mid-size project. Has an understand of SQP goals and applies this knowledge to perform the work. Works in the field to resolve any conflicts with tolerances and field constructability issues. Duties and Responsibilities Operates Surveying Equipment to Layout the Work: Maintains control points onsite through input provided by Party Chief or Field Engineering Manager. relies on direction of Craft Foreman for instruction on the layout of work activities. Provides instrument work which includes operating the gun, chalking and painting, string lining, etc. Establishes plumb and concrete elevations. Rechecks work after concrete pours. Provides Layout with Adheres to Quality Control Requirements: Validates initial layout of work by coming off of a different concrete post/line. Sets up, and checks accuracy of surveying equipment through pegging and double centering, or other methods. Maintains current as-built and accurate field notes. Reviews and understands construction drawings and identifies discrepancies. Understands and uses the allowable tolerances for the construction of the work; communicates and documents non-conforming conditions to the Party Chief or Superintendent. Performs work with persistence for perfection (close does not count). Work Environment: Work is a combination of office and field environments involving various types of conditions encountered on the construction site. Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions. Ensures a Safe Work Environment Participates in Training/Certifications Job Requirements Specific qualifications for the Instrument Man Level 1 include: High school diploma or equivalent; and 3 years of construction engineering experience, 2 of which are as a Rodman Ability to work within a team environment Possesses working knowledge of contracts, specifications, drawings and scope of work Must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 20 pounds Requires ability to maneuver in and out of the job site trailers and various stages of job site terrains.
