Job Responsibilities and Requirements: In this position you will: Be under the general supervision of the technical supervisor of cytology, performs accurate analysis of cytology specimens.Must demonstrate a high degree of proficiency and understanding in laboratory procedures in the cytology department and demonstrates competency in the department to facilitate quality patient care and diagnosis by performing primary and secondary microscopic examination of non-gynecological and gynecological specimens renders a diagnosis and reports results. Perform cytology specimen preparatory procedures using established procedures and assists with fine needle aspirations collection. Prepare and maintains all departmental records for quality control, quality assurance and accreditation agencies. In addition, participates in solution of technical problems requiring a great degree of independent judgment, instructs new caregivers, and troubleshoots. Follow the principles outlined in the Compliance/Integrity Program Handbook and adheres to all regulatory requirements for this position. Required qualifications for this position include: Baccalaureate degree in related health sciences preferred if certification was prior to January 2005. Baccalaureate degree in related health sciences required if certification was after January 2005. Successful completion of 12-month CAHEA accredited cytotechnology program or equivalent. If registry eligible, certification is required within one year of hire. Minimum of one year of cytology experience in a broad range of specimens. Proficient in P.C. software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.Current California State Clinical Cytotechnologist License. ASCP Cytotechnologist certification recommended. Preferred qualifications for this position include: Two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
