Senior Construction Underwriting Manager

Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Responsibilities: Leadership: Responsible for the acquisition, retention and development of senior level underwriting talent. Formally manages, mentors, and coaches underwriters and business analyst in both technical and professional skills. Fosters an environment of continuous improvement. Manages several direct and adjacent support resources for National Insurance Specialty s largest and most complex account. Risk Selection: Responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to better evaluate risk quality and improve underwriting skillset in assessing risk. Able to prioritize large volume of data and make decisions/recommendations with incomplete information. Agent/Broker Relationships : Establishes and maintains high level of relationship management with key Agents and Brokers. Develops underwriters negotiation, communication and deal making skills. Portfolio Management : Evaluates portfolio performance based on profitability metrics, multiline diversification, reinsurance, production metrics and industry trends. Defines strategy and oversees execution of continuously improving portfolio in alignment with division or segment objectives. Quality Audit and Account Review: Ensures files meet regulatory requirements and internal documentation standards. Coaches underwriters to articulate thought process, decision making within both account reviews and file documentation. Qualifications: Expert level understanding of commercial property & casualty products; insurance operations; finance and actuarial concepts; regulatory environment; reinsurance; account management; underwriting; and producer management. Skills required include analyzing and problem solving; adaptability; decision making, building relationships; working effectively with others; communicating effectively; negotiation; influencing others; applying financial acumen; focusing on service; executing well; planning and organizing work; and achieving results. Experience with Construction and Large Complex Accounts is preferred. Experience strong working knowledge with Alternative financing products such as; Captive reinsurance accounting transactions [Direct and ceded], reconciling reported vs booked exposures on a monthly basis. Prior management experience is preferred to manage the many internal stakeholders (Service, Actuarial, Claims, Loss Control, Reinsurance, Finance) supporting a very large construction account Advanced degree or equivalent training required, CPCU designation (or equivalent), experience managing or mentoring underwriting staff preferred, 7 years of relevant experience.
