Job Responsibilities and Requirements: This role is accountable for improving measurable performance indicators through project implementation as well as process improvement. A highly skilled clinical practitioner/process engineer who utilizes continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma methodology to drive large-scale change management across lines of service. Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer, serves as the primary leader and coach in Lean and Process Improvement for the Detroit Market. Works with hospital administrators and corporate leaders to develop and implement process improvement initiatives and manages overall Lean transformation efforts throughout the Detroit Medical Center. Develops and directs the DMC s Lean and process improvement staff to ensure adequate expertise is available throughout the system. Implements Lean educational programs for leaders and staff. Develops key metrics related to process improvement projects to ensure expected outcomes are being achieved, and continually monitors progress. Maintains alignment with and supports Tenet Healthcare efforts through regular communications and collaboration with Tenet Home Office. Collaborates with staff of various hospitals and departments to improve processes and reduce waste through the use of Lean, Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies. Provides education and training to hospitals and corporate departments on the use of various process improvement tools and assists them with the appropriate utilization of these tools to reduce waste. Oversees the development, implementation and/or revision of procedures/protocols in accordance with system-wide goals and objectives. Approves procedures/protocols, and/or seeks departmental approvals as appropriate. Provides input into the development and revision of organizational structure for areas of responsibility. Approves personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc. Ensures timely completion of performance appraisals and mandatory employee educational modules. Develops current to intermediate goals and performance measures for areas of responsibility, and measures/assesses performance indicators. Assists in long-range goal development. Develops and monitors budget for areas of responsibility. Monitors activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations Joint Commission requirements, and DMC policies and procedures. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers. Masters degree in Engineering, Organizational Development, Healthcare Administration, Business, Healthcare Operations or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Seven years of experience leading process improvement -based transformations in complex system, including experience training all levels of the organization in the use of applied Lean, process improvement principles demonstrated expertise in change management within complex organizations experience implementing approaches to improvement including value stream mapping, kaizen, 5S, pull systems, visual management, work leveling, Strategy Deployment and A-3 thinking. experience guiding and coaching executive leadership through the Lean transformation process. 3. Certification in process improvement methodology such as Lean and/or Six Sigma. Prior leadership experience strongly preferred.
