Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Patent Professional Intern will also interact with the wider IBM legal team, both internal and external to the Patent Center, and with inventors. Candidates must have or be working towards a technical science or engineering degree. Successful candidates will exhibit high-level writing and communication skills and will have a desire to learn. Although knowledge of the patent procurement process is preferred, on the job training will be provided in an interactive and collaborative format modeled to the highly motivated individual. The preferred candidate would participate in the internship between his or her second and third year of law school. On a limited basis, students completing their first year of law school will also be considered, as well as undergraduate students completing their junior year, working towards a technical degree, and having a demonstrated interest in the patenting process. Required Technical and Professional Expertise Currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in a technical field Demonstrated eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam Preferred Tech and Prof Experience Preferred technical backgrounds/degrees include: Computer Science; Computer Systems Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Information Technology; Chemistry, Biology; Chemical Engineering; Materials Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Physics; or Another science or engineering field with significant course work in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics,. The preferred candidate will be registered to practice with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
