Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Job Purpose: To manage, direct and leverage designated patent and related intellectual property (IP) activities within NIBR Major Accountabilities: Partner, challenge and counsel NIBR clients on opportunities to protect their inventions and mitigate third party risks Identify, draft, file and prosecute patent applications for all inventions arising from NIBR projects in technical area(s), e.g., technologies, biological targets, new biologic entities, secondary patents (e.g., additional indications, combinations) Formulate patent strategies for key NIBR clients in technical area(s), e.g., the Disease Areas and Early Biology Platforms that secure target and technology Freedom-to-Operate (FTO), enable IP defense(s) and which could contribute to future product protection Direct outside counsel prosecution and opinion services Provide IP support to Strategic Alliances, including IP strategies leading to transaction opportunities, evaluation of in-licensing opportunities, negotiation support, and contract drafting during active transactions. Conduct patentability and freedom to operate assessments, e.g. target clearance/patent audits at appropriate stage gate consistent with NIBR Patents guidelines; coordinate as needed with the corresponding Pharma attorney Direct the NIBR IP Search & Analytics team to provide integrated search support NIBR Disease Areas and Biology Platforms Maximize effective communication with NIBR scientists and leadership Conduct timely review of assigned external publication requests Continue professional development and contribute to development of IP colleagues Minimum requirements Key Qualifications & Capabilities: Strong scientific background in biological sciences; preferably including direct lab experience Expertise in local and PCT law, filing process and prosecution practice; detailed understanding of counterpart US or EP law and other major global patent systems Strong customer-service focus to build and sustain effective partnerships with key stakeholders and project teams Effective analytical, presentation and communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team Well-developed research and critical thinking skills, and sound decision-making abilities, with attention to detail to produce consistently accurate work Strong organization and time management skills with flexibility, creativity, resourcefulness to successfully prioritize and manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously Interpersonal skills (partnership, influence/persuasion, teamwork) Incorporates global outlook and management of product life-cycle into decision making process EEO Statement.
