Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Patient Financial Services Specialist (PFS) position is to assist in ensuring maximum reimbursement for working and resolving edits and denials in the following Work Queues: Charge Review, Claim Edits and Follow Up. This position will assist providers in monitoring for open/missing encounters. They work with the Care Center Staff/Managers to identify potential gaps and work with the Revenue Cycle Manager/Billing Supervisor to ensure policies and procedures are in place. This position is responsible to work all credits in a timely manner according to Sutter Health s P&P. Education/Certification/Licensure: A High School Diploma is required. An Associates Degree is desired. Experience: Two (2) years of recent experience working in a health care setting and insurance verification preferred. Knowledge: Knowledge of insurances and authorization processes is preferred. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and oral communication skills are required. Tact and diplomacy with patients and providers for sensitive matters, strong ability to multi-task, and ability to maintain organized records so that the documentation trail on authorizations and referrals is transparent to others is required. Knowledge of computers: Excel and Word proficiency and skill in the operation of other office equipment is required. Employee must be able to work independently as well as a part of a team. Knowledge of ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding is preferred. Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to form relationships with providers and clinic staff are required. Well developed phone and customer service skills are important skills for this position. Employee must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Must be detail oriented, flexible, and able to prioritize own work load, with the ability to work independently and be a self starter. Employee must maintain strict confidentiality of all protected health information and display appropriate discretion concerning private information. Customer Service skills are a priority therefore must be able to communicate professionally, calmly and effectively with all customers. The ability to complete multiple projects and manage shifting priorities with frequent interruptions is a required skill. Excellent spelling and grammar skills (verbal and written) are essential for this position. Computer skills are a must for this position.
