Job Responsibilities and Requirements: This position supports the Section of Taxation Vice Chairs of Pro Bono & Outreach, Government Relations, and Committee Operations as directed in furtherance of the Section s commitment to improve tax administration, to provide quality and timely information and services to the Section membership and the tax bar generally, to improve tax administration, to provide quality and timely information and services to the Section membership and the tax bar generally, and to provide tax services to the underserved. As such, he/she will assist in providing technical tax assistance, guidance and support for Section pro bono training and education, drafting reports, and writing for publications in the area of tax. Will provide technical assistance in analyzing laws, regulations, policy proposals, and court rules, and will prepare memoranda on law or policy as identified. Will assist the Vice Chair Pro Bono & Outreach with the Section s existing pro bono commitment by acting as liaison to the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Military VITA, Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) projects, and Tax Court Calendar Call Programs. Will assist with designing, coordinating, administering, and assessing new pro bono activities, including Tax Pro Bono for Elders and Partners for Pro Bono. Will design and oversee substantive content of Section events and web pages and will undertake other tasks as directed to ensure adherence to the Section s pro bono commitment and Diversity Policy. Will participate in the preparation and publication of Committee products, and will coordinate and support Committee projects. Will work as directed to conduct research, write and/or edit memoranda and articles, including articles for publication. Articles could include evolving issues in pro bono representation for low-income taxpayers and the elderly. Will serve as a resource for leadership and other staff regarding interaction with various Section constituencies and external organizations. Will interact with external constituencies as directed, including with VITA and LITC programs, trainers at clinics, community foundations, other organizations (such as the AICPA) and Section membership. Education Doctoral Degree (JD) Experience JD and at least 8 years of practice or other experience in the specialized area of tax law. Substantial experience and high level of skills in policy analysis and scholarly writing, public speaking, other professional legal writing.
