Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The primary role of the Industry Sponsored Contract Officer ( ISCO )/Portfolio Manager is to effectively facilitate and advance corporate sponsored contracts and related research agreements with industry partners consistent with research and business culture, university policies and procedures, and applicable regulations and laws. The Industry-Sponsored Contract Officer/Portfolio Manager will be responsible for effective collaboration and coordination with the Office of Research Administration and the Center for Research Innovation to establish industry Sponsored Research Agreements ( SRA ) process and procedures, educating University faculty, staff, and students on the corporate agreements process and procedures, successfully and efficiently facilitating agreements, enhancing faculty and corporate relationships, and related training and education for faculty, staff, and students on issues and process affecting Corporate contracts. This role will leverage strong technical and industry expertise to draft and timely negotiate corporate funded contracts and related agreements (confidentiality, non-disclosure, data use, material transfer agreements, etc.), specifically identifying and protecting University intellectual property and other interests and effectively evaluating third-party IP risks to achieve business objectives of the University. The Industry-Sponsored Contract Officer/Portfolio Manager will report to the Director of Research Administration and/or the Director, Center for Research Innovation and will routinely consult and work closely with the University s Intellectual Property Counsel and Senior Research and Sponsored Programs Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel. Qualifications The successful candidate must have a bachelor s degree required, Phd strongly preferred in a relevant scientific or technological discipline and seven years of relevant and progressively responsible experience, preferably in a research university setting. Must have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively, excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally interact internally and externally; strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated integrity, ethics, creativity, high sense of urgency, initiative, courtesy, professionalism and a highly collegial and collaborative approach in all work and in developing and maintain work and other professional relationships. Strong technical background and experience working with complex research agreements, including, but not limited to, non-disclosure agreements, SRAs, and material transfer agreements. Strong understanding of and experience working with intellectual property along the continuum from assessment to protection, development and commercialization. Strong, sophisticated experience in drafting and negotiation of corporate SRAs. Demonstrated knowledge of issues typical to legally binding agreements and SRAs, including but not limited to, intellectual property rights, indemnification, limitation of liability and insurance requirements, mitigation of publication restrictions, ownership of research data, and export control and other compliance issues and/or requirements. Strong principle-based negotiation and agreement drafting experience essential. An understanding of areas of key concern to academic institutions in the negotiation of contracts with industry required. Creative, effective and prompt problem-solving skills essential. The ability to timely, efficiently and effectively collaborate with University partners required. The ability to work effectively independently and with supervision and/or direction required. Excellent organization skills and the ability to undertake, effectively prioritize and successfully manage a large case-load in a deadline driven environment required.
